Inside the Grahn's Upholstery workshop

    Our Process

Honest, hands-on craftsmanship from estimate to delivery.

    How a Project Comes Together

Reupholstery is part craft, part conversation. Here's exactly what to expect when you work with us — no jargon, no surprises.

    STEP 01

    Tell Us About Your Project

Reach out with photos and a description of the piece you'd like reupholstered. We'll ask a few questions about the look you're going for, how the piece is used, and your timeline.

    STEP 02

    Custom Estimate

We provide a detailed written estimate covering labor, materials, and expected turnaround. No surprise charges — if something changes during the work, we call before we keep going.

    STEP 03

    Choose Your Materials

Bring your own fabric (COM) or browse samples from our trusted suppliers. We'll help you weigh durability, hand-feel, cleanability, and pattern repeat against your budget.

    STEP 04

    Drop Off or Pickup

You can drop the piece at our St. Paul shop, or we can arrange pickup within the Twin Cities metro. We wrap and protect everything in transit.

    STEP 05

    We Craft It

Most pieces are stripped to the frame, inspected, and rebuilt from the inside out — new webbing, padding, and fabric, hand-tailored to fit. Every piece is built by a single upholsterer from start to finish.

    STEP 06

    Pickup or Delivery

When your piece is ready, we'll send a final invoice and schedule pickup or delivery. We stand behind our work — if anything isn't right, we'll make it right.

    Materials Matter

We only use upholstery-grade fabrics, foams, and webbing built to last decades — not seasons. For commercial work, we'll match fabrics to the right rub-count and flame rating for the application.

Have a fabric you love? Bring it in. Need help sourcing? We have catalogs from the best mills in the country and can help you find the right match for your piece and budget.

    Typical Timeline

Most residential projects are completed within 2–4 weeks from drop-off. Commercial runs and complex rebuilds may take longer — we'll give you a clear timeline with your estimate and keep you posted along the way.
